The gunsmith I use down in mansfield, Randy Kline, has an absolutely gorgeous M1 Garand for sale.
“A nice Navy trophy M1 Garand in 30-06. This is a trophy rifle awarded for 2nd place in a military style shooting match. 1st place would have been a Navy match M1 in 308. Serial number: 24456XX. Barrel marked SA-11-53, bore is bright and shiney. This rifle has some unique armory markings that identify it as a Navy rifle. Right behind the rear sight is an electro pencil mark showing the year of arsenal redo. Underneath the pistol grip is an “A” marking instead of the usual P in a circle. There are also some grease pencil markings of the last 3 digits of the serial number on the floorplate and op rod. It is unfired since the arsenal refurbish in the 60’s. The fellow that had this wins 1st and 2nd places in the rifle competitions on a regular basis and sells some of the rifles to help fund his traveling and shooting costs. The rifle is in arsenal refurbished “new” condition with only some minor handling marks. Price on this rifle is $900 plus $35 shipping and insurance in the ConUS.
The following info is from Scott Duff’s Garand collectors web page: http://www.scott-duff.com/M1Garand.htm
M1 Rifle in caliber .30-06. Often marked “O-65, O-66 or O-67” on flat of receiver behind rear sight. These are usually encountered in unissued condition following rebuild. According to Jeremy Cheek’s published article in the June 2004 issue of the Garand Collectors Association Journal, these rifles are USMC M1 rifles rebuilt at Marine Corps overhaul depots.”
I’m still kicking myself for not buying a 1950s Springfield Armory M1 Garand when I had the chance a few years ago. If I had $900 I’d buy this in a heartbeat and sell mine. Just look at it. Made in January of 1944, so it was possibly used in WWII. Probably used in Korea. Rebuilt in the 60s by the Marines, and not fired since. It’s dripping with history. Who _wouldn’t_ want to own and shoot this rifle?

Any chance this rifle is still available?

In case you don’t know, you can get a Garand through the Civilian Marksmanship Program for as little as $400. It may not be in the best condition, but there is something nice about having a rifle old enough to have participated in WW2.

What a surprise to see mention of the above Navy Trophy Garand on someones website.
Randy has built a few guns for me (Randy does excellent work) and when I saw him advertising the above Garand for sale, I just had to jump on it. There were only around 1350 of these Navy Trophy M1’s in 30.06 (re)built. When I talked to Randy on the phone about the rifle, I practically begged him to try and get the Navy Trophy Award paperwork from the original owner and sure as his word is good, about 2 weeks after I received the rifle, the paperwork showed up in the mail!
Just to let you guys know, I’m not much of a safe queen guy but, I still have not shot this gun and I’m still not sure if I will. She’s definately a keeper!! I have a good friend that collects Garands and can say that he has left “drool” on this gun on more than one occasion.
Thanks,
Habe (habe on the Falfiles)

wow! im fasinated by these rifles and i was wondering if there is any chance you know of anywhere i could get my hands on one of these fantastic rifels?
added by gandalf23:
Since you’re in the UK, you’re limited to deactivated rifles. Try D & B Militaria, looks like they have a deactivated M1 Garand for 1250 pounds (or about 2500 US Dollars, three times what a very nice functioning one costs over here!)

I would like to see more photos of your m1 if it is ok with you thank you and i am thinking about bying the m1
Added by gandalf23:
It’s not my M1, the gunsmith that I use was selling it for the owner. I believe that it was sold and the new owner posted in the comments here about how he wasn’t sure if he was going to fire it or not.
Or were you talking to Steve Reynolds?

I am looking to get my hands on a M1 garand for around 4-550 besides GB.com and CMP is there anyplace else to check out.. thanks
Added by gandalf23:
For that price, better keep an eye on the local classifieds and greensheets, check out pawn shops, ask around at your local gun range/club. Unfortunately, a lot of people bought the $500 garands from the CMP, swapped around a few parts, then turned around and priced them at $1000 or more, so it can be hard to find them for less than that. Best bet, most likely, is to wait for the CMP to start selling them again.
Comment by Ray — July 26, 2007 @ 9:38 pm
Today was offered a M-1 match grade in .308 just won by a Navy Commander at Camp Perry. $900. Should I buy?
Added by gandalf23:
I would say yes, you should. Assuming you can afford it, go for it. They certainly are not making them anymore, it’s a neat piece of history, and it’s neat that you know how it was acquired. On the off chance that you get it and decide you don’t like it, you should have no problem getting your money back out of it.

I was wanting to purchase a M1 Garand to hunt with. I have been to the CMP but I would rather hold the gun and look down the gun before I would want to buy one, because I have never held one and I wouldn’t want to but a gun that I don’t like how it feels. If anyone out there has one for sale for about $400-500 I would be interested in talking to you. I live in West Virginia on the Ohio River side. Thanks

Good morning, I am looking for a WWII M1 garand rifle with a history. It is for me but mostly for my dad who’s brother fought in World War Two. It would be nice if it were in decent condition, but I am getting this mostly for historical reasons so a nick here and there only makes it more interesting, especially if someone knows the history.
I found this site on the net and saw people chatting on this topic so hopefully someone can help me out.
If you know of any guns fitting this description please let me know,or post some info here. I will check back from time to time.
Thanks

Funny how the M1 Garand is so valueble today. In Denmark we used the ww2 Garand for the new recruits up until the early 1990´s…
I used it for 9 months in the Royal Danish Airforce as a recruit i 1987/88. We used the rifle for allmost anything from opening cans of food and as stiffening for broken legs: under water, in sand, in the air, in mud, in frost and icing conditions and hot weather. Good in fast shooting close combat situations and good in long range precision shooting as well. It allways worked and I never had any failures with it. Have fired aprox. 500 shots in all(real and blank shots).
A good rifle, nice big bullets and really good in all conditions.
Sorry for my english, hop you can read it anyway
Regards Michael (Denmark)

I’m a retited US Army Warrant Officer and I would like to acquire a MI rifle for range use. I served in the Infantry from 1973 to 1978 and ran across the M1 and M14’s back in High School ROTC before I joined up. I would like to find one in nice overall shape and if your concerned, I do promise to take good care of it.
Comment by Charles D. Woods — July 4, 2008 @ 3:54 pm
Charles, if you are looking for one to shoot and not a collector, then I can’t recommend highly enough the Civilian Marksmanship Program. They sell off the M1 Garands that the Army is getting rid of. Right now you can get a Rack Grade M1 Garand made by Springfield Armory for $445. What a deal! They occasionally have M1 Carbines and various .22s as well. Sadly they’ll never have M14s since they are considered machine guns.

Ditto 21. You get a good shooter from CMP, and then buy nice wood from Boyds.

I would like to get for a christmas present. I am not eligible because i am not in any of the clubs. Please email me at dizcriminatedbass@yahoo.com asap .. please and thanks.
Comment by Wilson — December 18, 2008 @ 3:19 am
Im only looking for a decently beat up one(service grade) that will be used as a shooter. so if anybody would be willing to sell one please get back to me..
Comment by Wilson — December 18, 2008 @ 1:38 pm
Wilson, the Garand Collectors Association is $25 a year to join, and they count as an affiliated club for CMP eligibility.
If you were in the military, or have a concealed carry permit in your state that counts for the marksmanship requirements.
One of the other options for the marksmanship requirements is “Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity. A form for use in completing and certifying your range firing can be downloaded from the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/forms/marksmanship.pdf” Well shucks, that should be easy to get, just have the Range Officer at the range fill it out next time you go shooting. Even if you usually shoot in an open field out on some dudes land somewhere, pay the $10 or whatever the local range charges and have them fill out the form, I think it’d be worth it.

Have 2 M1 Garands for sale, just inherited from my grandfather. I believe one may be french, as I can’t really read the name on it but it is tagged 1905-15 and has the year 1943 marked on it. The other one I can’t seem to find a name.
If anyone is interested e-mail me at jbtsc@ymail.com, I will send pics and offer any more info I can.

M1 garand for sale at amazon
Added by gandalf23:
umm, I don’t think Amazon.com sells firearms. They do have a nice looking replica M1 Garand, but it is non-firing, and is not a real firearm.

wow this is the longest conversation i have ever seen lol (in time not length) i just bought my fist rifle a bushmaster m4 but i would love to get a m1 garand and a k-98. i love ww2 and all the history behind it so to get both of those rifles, shoot them 5-10x each and then hang em on my wall together would be awsome. im definitely going to have to save for a while though lol
Comment by mike — November 7, 2009 @ 12:53 am
Craig: The “Universal” is a poor quality copy of the M1 Carbine, which is a different weapon than the Garand (Not “Grand.”)
Universals are notorious for problems. Plainfield are better, or get a surplus one from CMP.

Hi, I am looking for an M1 Garand for my retired Army LTC husband for his birthday. He is an avid gun collector and has dreamed of owning one of these but they are high priced as I have found. I really want to get him one for his 45th B-day it would mean so much to him. I have done my homework and can identify and match SN as well as parts and have used firearms for a while so can inspect bore etc…Not pro by any means like you all but thats where I was hoping some of you could help.
If Anyone can help me find an affordable one please email or call me ericaheskett@hotmail.com 563-505-5398. I currently reside in KY. I would like to find one in decent condition. Please help
